I'm stuck in Salt Lake City, in the middle of 2 days of travel, heading home from Haiti. So, it's story time...

There is quite a bit of livestock now in Terre Blanche, primarily donkeys, goats and cattle, chickens and pigs. The goats usually run loose and have "cone of shame", a triangle of wood collar around their necks, to keep them out of gardens and fenced areas. The chickens and roosters also run loose. The donkeys and cattle almost all have a rope tied around their neck or horns, long enough to grab by the boys that keep them. The boys will round up the few head of cattle that they have and move them around to new grazing areas, or bring them back closer to home.

One evening, a small group of us went for a walk across the river, and Celestin was with us. Margaret and I were walking with him, when I young boy with a cow came down the path towards us. I was in front, and just kept walking, when Celestin stopped abruptly behind me. (Celestin:) "Aren't you afraid of the cows?!?" (Me:)"No, I used to work with cattle and my family raised cattle." Then, as if paid to do so, the cow shook her big, horned head at us, Celestin screamed, and the three of us backed up the path like lightening (laughing hysterically)! Needless to say, we harassed poor Celestine about that every time we were out walking, and cattle were nearby. Here's a few photos of the stone cold killer, and some other critters ... :)
