Whew! I made it to Uganda, but not without challenges. As always. 😶I arrived at the airport a little before 5am and had a smooth go through security, which should have made me suspicious. Haha. My flight on Air Canada was delayed due to engine trouble, then delayed again, then once more, then cancelled. I was "rebooked" on a Qatar flight that wouldn't board until 4"30 pm, but by the time my luggage was recovered it was clear that trying to leave the airport would have been a waste of time and resources. Qatar does not have 24 hour check in, so I have to wait with my luggage until the desk opened at 1pm. Once my luggage was checked, I was sent to the gate for a seat assignment, which I thought was a bit strange. I arrived at the gate and was told they would call me for a seat assignment. Well, what no one bothered to explain to me was that I was NOT booked, I was added as Stand-by. I managed to get one of the last available seats, on a full flight, squeezed into a window seat next to Paul Bunyun on a 15-hour flight to Doha, Qatar, had a short and manageable layover before hopping on a 6-hour flight to Entebbe. I arrived a little past midnight, had no trouble getting through security (a reward from the universe?), and arrived at my hotel around 1am.
I finally crashed around 2am, after a much-needed shower, flopped into bed and slept well until a dramatic storm woke me up. I dragged myself out of bed around 9:30am this morning, had some breakfast, checked in with my Uganda people, and THEN realized that it's Friday and not Saturday! 😂 I cannot keep the time change straight, and my brain is thick and fuzzy this morning. I'm quite relieved actually, because that means I have an extra day here in Entebbe to rest. My friends, Allan and Picho are coming for a visit this afternoon, and it's turning into a beautiful day. I'll probably lay low today, maybe walk to the nearby store, try to stay awake to force my brain on to Uganda time. Whew.
That's all for now! I'm going to grab my knitting and headphones, plug into an audiobook and hang out on the rooftop lounge with the monkeys.
Much love,
Jo/MB
