The ball is rolling! I have booked my flight, purchased travel insurance, and applied for my Uganda travel visa. I've also learned a few things along the way. For instance, did you know that in the state of Washington, you can only get travel insurance for 90 days of travel? Me neither! I happened to find this out at the same time I found out that I will be traveling for 94 days. Hmmm. So, I will be purchasing a second policy for the 4 days at the end of my trip, which will be in London. I suppose it's a good idea to have the insurance in London, considering the endless number of Pubs and cheese shops, paired with my lack of self control and tendency towards pancreatitis in countries known for delicious cheese. (Feel free to look back at the food photos from Honduras!) I also found out that the Malawi Travel Visa states it is good for 3 months, but it really means it is good for 1 month, within a 3 month period. I found this out AFTER my flight was booked, but luckily I am spending exactly 30 days in Malawi. Whew. I also found out that there is no "easy" way to get to Malawi, but this will give me the chance photograph a few more airports. :)
The plan, at this point, is that I will spend 4 weeks in Malawi and 8 weeks in Uganda. In Malawi I will spend 2 weeks at 2 different facilities and, with the help of 2 Ugandan Sonographers, I will train 6 people at each clinic. I haven't heard my schedule for Uganda yet, so I'll keep you posted. I have started reading up on Malawi, and found this site with some details and photographs...

I have already been warned about the parasites and crocodiles in Lake Malawi, so expect a lot of photos of the lake taken from the shore!

I have one week left of my contract on Whidbey Island, and I have already made an appointment to get my Malaria meds and Typhoid vaccine at the Travel Clinic. Luckily, that's the only vaccine I need this time, but the Malaria meds for 3 months are going to hit me right in the wallet...but it beats catching Malaria! I've started my typical myriad of lists, in order to remember everything that is bouncing around in my head, which are scattered across the counter and tucked into notebooks. But first, I have to start packing for the trip back home, so I'm keeping this short and sweet!
More details to come, and as always, thank you for joining me on my journey.
