I am very sorry to share with you all that my trip to Haiti has been cancelled. MTI contacted me with the news this morning, and I have been quite down hearted all day, especially after speaking with some of my friends who are still going. The HFH (Haiti Foundation of Hope) Team is still planning on going, however, as a volunteer with MTI I am under different restrictions. Needless to say, HFH was not happy about this decision. Currently, there is a lot of unrest in Haiti, and specifically (PAP) Port Au Prince. The elections are always precarious, and they have been postponed yet again, which has led to an increase in protestors and potential violence. MTI has decided that it is not worth the risk to send volunteers to Haiti, especially since I would've been spending time in PAP. On the one hand, the reason I am so willing to travel alone to wherever MTI sends me, is because I know they make every attempt to always put my safety first. On the other hand, I will miss speaking at the Medical Conference, working with Mde. Bluette, seeing my HFH friends, seeing all of the darling children and friends that I've made in Terre Blanche, and just spending two weeks doing what I love so very much. I also look forward to my February trip as an escape from the bleak winter weather. For those of you who have been so generous with your financial contributions, none of the funds have gone to waste. The flight was cancelled, but I will be able to use the credit for the next trip, and the funds will be held in my "wallet" for future trips. After multiple phone calls to and from MTI, and also to some of my HFH friends, I'm officially emotionally drained for the day. On a positive note, I will be traveling to Portland, OR. in April, and spending time at MTI headquarters, to discuss future plans and trips. I'll keep you posted, and as always, I am blessed and grateful for your emotional and financial support! ox
